Homebrew The NA4IT "CHEAP" Dual Band Ground Plane Antenna
Posted by penghulu on Sunday, January 06 @ 11:24:28 MYT (1376 reads)

Here is a neat little antenna that is very easy and cheap to build. It is ideal for Technician class hams needing a "first" antenna, and also a very good "emergency" antenna for use during Skywarn events when you don't want to be on the sky hooks tall in the sky! This little antenna is very functional on 2 meters and 70 centimeters.

Homebrew Double Zepp Antennas
Posted by penghulu on Tuesday, November 13 @ 11:04:04 MYT (1622 reads)

Antenna has been improved with removable radials for easier transport and cheaper shipping, This makes it an Excellent ARES/RACES Antenna.

9-10dbi Gain on 440
6.8dbi gain on 2 meters

Antenna is a full Wave on 440 and almost a full wave on 2 meters.

All Copper 2 meter / 440 N2RGA Extended Double Zepp Antenna.

All antenna's are individually tuned for a SWR of 1.2.1 on 444 MHz. On 2 Meters I get a 1.3.1 SWR.

All antenna's are fully assembled ready to install onto a Piece of PVC pipe.

Homebrew Benefits of LMR Cable
Posted by adminshc on Tuesday, July 31 @ 01:03:21 MYT (498 reads)

Benefits of LMR Cable
Flexible: More flexible than corrugated copper cables; often eliminating the need for jumper cables. Low Cost: The most cost effective choice for antenna feeders and jumper cables. Low Loss: Loss comparable to corrugated copper cables. Weatherproof:    Black polyethylene UV protected jacket for long life. Bonded aluminum tape resists moisture ingress.

Homebrew Coaxial Cable Characteristics and Data
Posted by adminshc on Tuesday, July 31 @ 00:35:46 MYT (620 reads)

It is of importance when making decisions about getting the right coax for your Ham Station to understand that there are trade-offs that have to be considered between transmitter power, antenna gain, coax loss, and your total Ham Station system performance.
Your bank account may also enter into the equation like most Hams.

The db differences in gains or losses on transmit and receive between the choices available to you are the important issue.

A difference of 3 db either way will not be apparent to the stations that you are communicating with on the other end; around the block or around the world. They won't hear or see (on the S meter) any difference if you run your transmitter at 50 watts instead of its maximum 100 watt output power as an example.
This is a difference of about 3db! The same ratio holds true comparing 500 watts with 1000 watts!
Now take this same analogy and apply it to coax.
Here is an example:

Homebrew Make Your Own
Posted by adminshc on Sunday, April 29 @ 13:18:38 MYT (1764 reads)

Not the bathtub kind . . . the kind you stick on an H-T. For a few dollars and a couple of hours of fun, you can roll your own 2-meter rubber duckies that will likely perform better than many commercial units.

Homebrew SIMPLE 2 METER GROUND PLANE PROJECT
Posted by adminshc on Friday, April 20 @ 13:04:29 MYT (1381 reads)

The vertical radiator is 1/4 wavelength long at your operating frequency.

It has no gain but makes an excellent small antenna that can be mounted anywhere and with a little planning, can be used mobile on a short mast from the bumper!! Adding a small attachment loop at the tip of the radiator will enable it to be suspended from above for inside use.
The vertical element and radials can be made of #12 copper wire or welding rods, coat hanger, etc. The vertical radiator (A) should be soldered to the center connector of the SO239.

Homebrew Slim-Jim 2m VHF Band Antenna
Posted by adminshc on Friday, April 20 @ 12:47:17 MYT (3401 reads)

Slim-Jim is easy to built, no radial 145Mhz antenna. It has almost equal gain of a 5/8 lambda (Did not measure with any professional equipment, but my FT23R S-meter shows equal readings on both antennas) and much higher gain than 1/4 lambda whip. But it is much easier to buld than a 5/8 or 1/4 antenna. This looks like a modified J pole. I am sorry I don’t know who invented this, but some one who has done a good job.
