If everything would goes smooth, some time this year, amateur radio
operators throughout Peninsula Malaysia, Singapore
and Indonesia
would be able to access another amateur radio 2M repeaters with a 10m beacon
situated on Pulau Pisang.
Headed by MARTS, a team of amateur radio enthusiasts from various
organizations such as JASRA, JOSRAC, NESRAC, ASTRA, PERAMAH etc and the help of various government
agencies and kampong folks, arrived at Pulau Pisang recently to do a ground
survey on where would be the best spot to erect our repeaters and beacon.
During our recce, we
used a 5/8 wave vertical antenna with a 3 element measuring tape Yagi mounted
on a 20ft collapsible aluminum po le. Pushed it up and started checking on
whatever frequencies that we think would be possible to trigger.

We were able to work repeaters as far as the Segamat local ASTRA
repeater, JASRA, Batam Island,
Singapore,
Gunung Pulai and Gunung Ledang with ease.
Stations we could listen to include repeaters on Gunung Telapah Buruk –
9M2RTB and 9M4RNS.
More has to be done before we can really get the repeaters running on
Pulau Pisang. We plan to install one repeater serving local stations, one
linking repeater, one simplex repeater (for experimenting such as PSK, RTTY
etc) and a 10m beacon.
So, all hams out there, look out for more updates on the progress of our
latest project.
Hehehe… do give us some lead time….lots of ground work to be done before
we can put everything up…. and most difficult part of all…. Heheheh.. …. Romeo
