Lagenda Gunung Ledang, 10 August 2008
MARTS & newly formed JOSRAC (Johor Scouts Amateur Radio Crew),
jointly organised a one-day introductory course for Scout leaders from
throughout Johor. SKMM Wilayah Selatan were also invited to give a talk
on their role and the laws regulating amateur radio.
Also attending the course were staff from Taman Negara. Staff from
Taman Negara Tanjung Pial (the southern most tip of the Asia Continent)
were there too.
A demostration on how our radios function and there was a display of our "International Standard" foxes made by 9M2DA.
At the end of the one day course, the participants were divided
into groups and told to go into the jungle behind the resort. In other
words...."get lost" ... of course with a ham and a transceiver.
The participants were given opportunities to use the radios and QSO ... in ham style.
Participants were mostly Assistant District Commissioners from
their respective districts. All were encouraged to be future hams and
participate in each and every JOTA event.
This year celebrates the 51st year of World JOTA but majority of
scouts in the country do not know the existance of JOTA. It is our duty
as hams to spread this to the scouting community and NorthJohor hopes,
by taking the lead... all other hams in the country would do the same,
help the scouts do JOTA in their respective districts and states.
