HOW TO CALL CQ ...or even answer one!
Posted by 9w2pck on Friday, September 19 @ 02:41:44 MYT (53 reads)
It seems impossible, but it's very true that most new hams don't know how to call CQ. And a lot don't know how to answer one, either!
We're all to blame for that. There just isn't as much “CQing” as there used to be, except during contests. One reason might be that we're mostly using transceivers with VFO control - as silly as that sounds. Here's the explanation: Back in the good old days (for me), we used mostly crystal controlled transmitters with separate, tunable receivers. The odds of having a crystal on exactly the same frequency as someone else who was on the band, and within range, at the same time was pretty slim. So, it was common to call CQ, then tune around, looking for answers.

Kursus Asas Amatur Radio - JOSRAC/MARTS
Posted by penghulu on Monday, August 11 @ 19:58:16 MYT (89 reads)
Lagenda Gunung Ledang, 10 August 2008
MARTS & newly formed JOSRAC (Johor Scouts Amateur Radio Crew),
jointly organised a one-day introductory course for Scout leaders from
throughout Johor. SKMM Wilayah Selatan were also invited to give a talk
on their role and the laws regulating amateur radio.
Also attending the course were staff from Taman Negara. Staff from
Taman Negara Tanjung Pial (the southern most tip of the Asia Continent)
were there too.
A demostration on how our radios function and there was a display of our "International Standard" foxes made by 9M2DA.
At the end of the one day course, the participants were divided
into groups and told to go into the jungle behind the resort. In other
words...."get lost" ... of course with a ham and a transceiver.
The participants were given opportunities to use the radios and QSO ... in ham style.

OPERATING PRACTICES FOR RADIO AMATEURS
Posted by penghulu on Friday, August 01 @ 10:26:07 MYT (93 reads)
Amateur Radio is a fascinating hobby with many facets that can be practised
by all amateurs alike. All the different things that make up this hobby
culminate in contacting other persons with the same basic interest and, above
all, the contacts made will contribute towards friendship and goodwill to each
other. In these times of stress and strife, we all need to make friends more
than ever before, and we can only promote goodwill by being on our best
behaviour whenever we pick up the microphone, the Morse key or use a computer in Amateur Radio. Politeness is the key to good operating.
In the same way that we have Traffic rules for road usage, and the Law of
the Land for the good of the community, so there are Regulations and Operating
Procedures governing our hobby, designed for us to obey, in order to make it easier to live with our fellow man. The Regulations are the Law, and the Operating Procedures mutually agreed "rules". Both are designed to make our hobby such a pleasure.
